Yes, **NRI students who are permanent residents or citizens of a country with compulsory military service** _can write exams like JEE or NEET even after completing their service period_. There is **no restriction** from the Indian side (IITs, NTA, or medical entrance authorities) that disqualifies a candidate based on when they completed their 12th board exam—as long as they meet the eligibility criteria.

For **JEE Advanced** , you can attempt the exam **in the year of passing your Class 12 exam and the year immediately after that**. So, if you complete 12th in 2025, your JEE Advanced attempts will be in **2025 and 2026 only**. If you complete your service and return **after this window** , then you won’t be eligible for JEE Advanced.

However, **JEE Mains** allows you to appear **up to 3 consecutive years** after passing Class 12, giving a bit more flexibility.

So, if you’re completing your armed forces service **after the JEE Advanced eligibility window** , you won’t be able to apply unless you take your **Class 12 exam again**. Some students opt for this by enrolling again in an open board like NIOS to reset their eligibility window.
