The B. Tech in Naval Architecture allows you to understand the branch of engineering that deals with the design, construction, operation, repair, maintenance and certification of marine vehicles including surface ships, submarines, and deep submersibles. Several courses are offered, that cater to the topics mentioned. courses in ship drawing and calculations are fundamental to the discipline. Additionally, courses in dynamic systems and control, programming in machine language, micro-controller design, neural networks, machine learning, and marine instrumentation are increasingly becoming integral electives in the current Naval Architecture curriculum. This shift is driven by the anticipation that various crucial functions of future marine vehicles, such as maneuvering and sea-keeping, will be autonomous.

Dual Degree and MTech

The department also offers a range of B. Tech. and M. Tech programs, which include dual degrees in ocean engineering and naval architecture, as well as M. Tech programs in

However, if one wishes to do their MTech in another field such as Data Science, Robotics, Tech MBA, etc. IIT Madras provides its students with an opportunity to convert to IDDD (Inter-Disciplinary Dual Degree) where you can pursue a masters in the field of your choice, under the condition that you have a good CGPA.
