IIT Madras RP, spread over 120,000 sq ft, houses big names like Saint Gobain Research India, With its proximity to IIT Madras, one of the premier academic institutes in India, the center is part of a unique ecosystem that fosters innovation through collaboration with academia while partnering with start-up companies. India’s largest engineering and manufacturing company, BHEL also has an R&D Gateway in collaboration with IIT Madras RP on development projects and acts as a central facility catering to all BHEL units.
Detect Technologies has developed products which monitor the processes of a large-scale manufacturing industry using cameras, infrared cameras, ultrasonic sensors and drones. The data is then procured using AI technology, developed at Detect to comprehend the operations at the plant on a real-time basis. It generates the alerts and the action plans to ensure the optimal functions. Detect has truly showcased vision and AI’s game changing, disruptive potential in our day-to-day life.
On the core engineering side, Planys is a deep tech startup that has been pioneering cutting-edge tech in marine robotics, non-destructive testing (NDT) and intelligent data analytics. Planys’ has been changing how underwater asset inspections are conducted across Maritime, Infrastructure and Energy sectors. Recently, Planys’ secured Rs. 43 crore funding to accelerate its mission to revolutionize infrastructure inspections.
IITM RP also has NeoMotion working on developing affordable assistive devices for people with physical disability. For instance, NeoStand is a compact Electric Standing Wheelchair that features a motorized standing function and compact design for maneuverability in tight spaces. PLUTO is a low-cost hand-neuro-rehabilitation device to provide gamified therapy to people with neurological conditions like stroke, arthritis, cerebral palsy, Parkinson’s disease, etc., and restore hand functions.
When it comes to sustainability, there are ongoing efforts by various startups at IITM RP in moving closer to 100% Renewable Energy. ZedBee uses IoT technology to improve the energy efficiency of HVAC systems. ZedBee’s solution has been tested in various malls in Mumbai where it brought down the power consumption by about 47%. Twin Health is a precision health platform combining ideas from Sensing and Machine Learning with medicine to reverse chronic diseases. Twin Health has developed a unique AI-based treatment towards reversing Type-II diabetes.
