Open Elective Courses (OEC) at IIT Madras

IIT Madras offers Open Elective Courses (OECs) to its enrolled students, covering areas such as humanities, social sciences, management, entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence, and data science. These electives are designed to encourage interdisciplinary learning and broaden skills beyond core academic programs.

Access for External Students

For learners outside IIT Madras, formal credit-based open electives (part of degree programs) are not typically available. However, there are alternative avenues through IIT Madras initiatives:

  • NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning):
    Free online courses in diverse subjects, offered by IIT Madras and other IITs, open to all learners.

  • SWAYAM & SWAYAM Plus:
